Alaa Alhassoun started his Fine Arts career in 2011 with a solo gallery in Dar Kalimat in Aleppo, Syria. Prior to that, he also participated in several group exhibitions while studying his Bachelor of Fine Arts (2009) in the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus. Works of Alhassoun, shown in various galleries of the Damascus art scene were he worked intermittently as well – most notably Tajalyat Space; have seen the light of other cities outside of Syria: Ankara, 2008 for workshops and exhibitions by the Mediterranean Fine Artists Union, and another in a gallery in the district of Stockholm on 2010.

Critics have classified Alhassoun's work as of the Abstract Expressionist school, in the way he creates the internal dynamics and produces scenes from patches and their extensions in a rhythm that sets the space around the shape.

Khedr Salman, newseditor of SouriatnaPress : “Abstract expressionist, may be the most suitable classification Alaa Alhassoun's first paintings, displayed successively in forums, workshops, and in solo and group exhibitions since 2006, is a fair academic chaptering as well.. for his recent risky journey, on paintings of lavish measurements, steep contrast degrees, using non-traditional quick-drying materials: oxides, inks, acrylics and aquaculture.”

In mid 2013, Alhasson stopped working and left Cairo where he was completing his post-graduate studies in the School of Fine Arts to his hometown of Aleppo, where he lives now intermittently.

Current paintings that came after a forced break are almost a representation of the personal impressions in front of an exceptional situation in the city, in all aspects: interaction with people and life.. traditions, measures, distances, space, speech, direction, expression, screams and fragmentation.
